About a year ago, I wrote a piece about the tectonic plate equivalents driving modern society: NATO expansion eastward, decay of western civilisation and Chinese communism.

In my view, all three plates were driving bad outcomes, although I posited that the first two would self correct. That they have self corrected within a year is wonderful to see.

NATO: Busted. Ukraine has proven that. Whatever your sympathies, the Russian/Ukraine war has shown that NATO is a toothless tiger.

Western civilisation: Comeback! Trump has proven that. Eight years since Trump won the US Presidency in 2016, the US has experienced 4 years of Trump and 4 years of Biden. The verdict is on the way: the US prefers Trump. It is coming home with a rush. The rest of the West will follow the US. Diversity, Inclusion and Equity died on the day of the failed assassination attempt. The images of a totally inept Secret Service protection detail changed the country’s opinion instantly. DEI may or may not have been the cause of the incompetence. Doesn’t matter. It looks like it was. That is all it takes for people to say “Enough.”

The horrendous Democrat led politics of DEI, sex is ‘assigned’ at birth and can be changed later, coupled with a certain penchant for the economic lunacy known as Modern Monetary Theory, are now being consigned to the rubbish tip. The Democrats have acted so outrageously that they have driven conservative voters to rebel. It is very hard to achieve rebellion among conservatives but the Dems have managed it. Tectonic plates 1 and 2 have ground to a halt.

Plate 3: Chinese communism. Demography is destiny. Demographic wheels turn slowly. China is ageing. It will be old before it is powerful. Time to wait.

Meanwhile, there is much to be cheerful about in the West.
